Next Landscape Walkthru - January 2011

Due to scheduling conflicts and uncertain weather, there will not be another landscape walk through until January 2011. In the meantime, I encourage everyone to take a walk on their own and enjoy the newly landscaped areas. Planting is underway at the Front gate and the dry creek will be installed soon.

Front Gate Improvement in Progress!

The Front Gate Landscape Improvement Project is underway. The plants have arrived and installation has begun.

November Landscape Walkthrough Rescheduled

The November landscape Walk-through has been tentatively re-scheduled for Friday Dec. 3 at 9:30am. Please check back or call the office for confirmation of new date.

October Landscape Walkthrough 11/1

The October Landscape Walkthrough has been rescheduled for Monday, November 1 at 9:30am. We meet at the front gate.

October Landscape Walkthrough Rescheduled

This month's landscape walkthrough will not occur on Friday, Oct 29th due to a scheduling conflict. I am in the process of scheduling a new day probably during the first week of November. Please check back.

Sevice day is Wednesday this week only

The landscape crew will be attending a seminar on “winter safety training” on the normal service day.

The crew will service Brittany Landing Bay on Wednesday of this week instead of Monday.

Front Gate Improvement Approved!!

At the Board Meeting earlier this week, the proposal for the improvements for the front gate were improved. Improvements include 7 new trees, clean-up of the area, new shrubs and installation of dry creeks on both sides of the entry. We anticipate installation to begin in late October.

This week the Landscape Service day will be Wednesday

For the week of Sept 20th, the landscape crew will come on Wednesday instead of their normal service day of Monday. The crew is attending an all day safety class on Monday.

Next Walkthrough Friday, Sept. 24 at 9:30am

The monthly landscape walk-thru will be Friday Sept 24 at 9:30am. We will meet at the front gate as usual.

This month I would like to focus on the maintenance of the Arbutus(aka Strawberry tree) and nandina. The arbutus are the large shrubs with red fleshy fruit. Unfortunately in many cases this shrub has been planted too close to walkways where the fruit becomes a mushy mess as people walk on them. I want to look at pruning options to minimize the mess. The common name for nandina is heavenly bamboo. This shrub is not a true bamboo, but a member of the barberry family. Many of these plants are old and hopefully some pruning will rejuvenate them.

Pool Area Improvement Nearly Complete

Pool Area improvements are almost complete. New plants have been planted within the pool area, outside of the entrance gate and outside on the Shepardson side.

Landscape Walk-Through confirmed 4/30

This month's landscape walkthrough will be Friday, April 30 at 9:30am. We will meet at the front gate.

Items on the walk-through include:
# Review with Landscaper items to be done on proposal approved at April 27 Board Meeting.
# May has 5 Mondays. On Months with 5 Mondays - Sheffield, Sheffield Bay path and Bike Path get "detail work". Are there specific items in these areas that need to be addressed this month?
# Ivy is encroaching on trees. I've noticed some specific trees (like the new Alder) that need ivy pulled away from their base. Have you noticed any?
# Mowed ivy by on Parfait (by Margaret) is not growing back. Has anyone noticed any other areas where the ivy has not come back after being mowed?
# Hardscape Problem between 135 and 143 Parfait
# Community Access near 145 Parfait

Pool Area Improvements Approved

The Board approved landscaping improvements to the Pool Area. Improvements include new plantings both inside and outside of the pool area.

Maintenance Tasks

The maintenance crew has been mowing the ivy. Rather than attempt to do all the ivy each year, we are only do a portion of it each year. So this year, the focus in on the south side. The crew started at the far end of Parfait and have been working there way towards the bike path.

Hard pruning of the selected escalonia plants is scheduled to be done next.

The next landscape walkthrough will be at 10am on Friday, Jan 29th. The Landscape Committee will me before the walkthrough at 9:30am. Weather permitting, the meeting will be held in the pool area.

The Committee will be addressing the following items:

1 - Pool Landscape Improvement Project
2- Ivy mowing
